PIP provides managed Proxmox services — design, deployment, monitoring, patching and 24×7 support — across Australia. Two managed plans bundle the Proxmox vendor subscription with PIP’s engineering and a Sydney NOC, so your first contact is local, not routed through European vendor support.

The model

What a Proxmox Subscription Includes

Before PIP’s managed plans, it helps to know what a Proxmox subscription is — and is not. Proxmox VE is free, open-source software: the full platform, free of charge, with no feature locked behind a paywall. A subscription does not add features — nothing is held back in the free release. What you pay for is the enterprise repository (a stable, tested update stream) and a Proxmox vendor support pathway. Many businesses run the free community edition, on the no subscription repository, in the lab and pay for subscriptions only on production servers.

Enterprise Repository

A valid subscription unlocks the enterprise repository — packages tested for stability before release. The free community edition runs from the no subscription repository instead, receiving the same packages on a looser, less-tested schedule. There are no crippled free repositories and complete paid ones: the feature set is identical in the free version, and only the enterprise repository’s tested pipeline separates them. That enterprise repository is the core of what a paid Proxmox subscription delivers — and why most businesses running Proxmox VE in production pay for it.

Vendor Support Tiers

The Proxmox subscription comes in three vendor tiers: Basic (three tickets a year, one-day response), Standard (ten tickets, four-hour response) and Premium (unlimited support, two-hour critical). Each tier adds enterprise repository access plus a Proxmox support pathway; you pay per socket, per year. The enterprise repository is the same across all three tiers, while the no subscription repository remains the free, untested option.

Community Edition vs Subscription

The free community version has the complete feature set — nothing is locked behind a licence, and it is free to run forever. It draws updates from the community repository, not the subscription repository, and community support is the forum. The difference a subscription makes is the stable enterprise repository and direct vendor support, not extra functionality. For production, that stability is the point — which is why businesses pay for a subscription on servers that must stay up. The free community Proxmox VE release and the enterprise subscription are the same software — the community edition simply forgoes the tested update stream.

The repository decision: the enterprise repository is tested for stability before release; the no subscription repository is not. For production Proxmox deployments, running on the community repository means accepting looser update timing — a risk a subscription removes.

PIP Managed Proxmox Plans

PIP’s two managed plans sit above the vendor subscription. Each includes the Proxmox enterprise subscription plus PIP’s operational layer for your Proxmox VE cluster — monitoring, patching, and engineering support. Both are per socket, per year, ex GST.

Which do you need?

Subscription Only, or Fully Managed?

Not every business needs a managed plan. If you have Linux engineers in-house, buying the Proxmox subscription on its own — Basic, Standard or Premium — gives you the enterprise repository and vendor support while you run Proxmox VE yourself. The software is free; you pay only for the subscription tier you choose, and PIP is happy to supply subscriptions that way as an authorised reseller.

The managed plans are for businesses that would rather not carry that operational load. Where a bare subscription gives you a stable enterprise repository and a ticket queue in Vienna, a PIP managed plan adds local engineers who design, deploy, monitor and patch the cluster for you. You still pay per socket — but you pay for an outcome, a Proxmox VE environment kept current and stable, not a subscription you then have to operate. For most businesses, the question is simply whether running the platform is the best use of their own team’s time.

Scope

What PIP Manages

A managed plan is not a subscription with a phone number — it is PIP’s engineers running the environment end to end.

Design and Architecture

Cluster design, storage architecture (ZFS vs Ceph vs traditional SAN), networking and SDN, and HA configuration — decided around your workload before a single server is racked. Get the architecture right once and the rest of the lifecycle is easier.

Deployment and Configuration

Installation, configuration, cluster formation, storage integration and network tuning, on hardware PIP can also supply — complete server, storage and networking stacks delivered alongside the managed service, configured before they reach you.

Ongoing Operations

Scheduled patching to keep the software current and stable, capacity monitoring, backup monitoring and regular performance review. The day-to-day operational work that keeps a cluster healthy, handled so your team does not have to.

Incident Response

Alert triage from the Sydney NOC, SSH remote support, and escalation to Proxmox vendor support for complex issues — backed by access-control review and backup-encryption verification as part of routine security hygiene.

Why PIP for Proxmox

Managed Proxmox is only as good as the engineers behind it. PIP’s are not new to the Linux stack Proxmox is built on.

Linux heritage

30+ years of Unix and Linux engineering — HP-UX, SCO Unix, SunOS and IBM AIX, then Linux from the 1990s. PIP has run the stack Proxmox is built on for three decades, which is exactly what inherited, under-documented environments need.

Proxmox partner

An authorised Proxmox partner since August 2025 — able to resell subscriptions and deliver first-level support — and a VMware partner since 1999, so PIP understands enterprise virtualisation from both sides for businesses weighing the options.

Australian support

A Sydney NOC with Australian-timezone first response, escalating to Proxmox vendor support only when needed. Your Proxmox monitoring sits alongside the internet, telephony and hosted services PIP already manages — one provider, one number.

“The clients who come to us for managed Proxmox are usually either building a cluster for the first time and want the architecture done properly, or they’ve inherited an environment that’s been self-managed and are hitting limits — storage almost full, no monitoring, patching not happening consistently. Both are solvable, but the inherited environment is where 30 years of Linux knowledge makes the biggest difference. We’ve seen every version of ‘it works but nobody’s quite sure why’, and we know how to make it something you can actually rely on.”
