Dray Tek Router Upgrade or Firmware Update

In March many users with older Dray Tek routers experienced an outage. This outage was due to an exploit being utilised on these older routers. This exploit saw the Dray Tek routers rebooting constantly thereby stopping all access to the Internet. This crippled many businesses for over a day, whilst our techs traversed the country side, upgrading and or replacing these effected devices.

This isn’t the first time an exploit on a router has effected PIP customers. Dray Tek issued a security exploit warning last year (2024). Those with the cheaper Netcom routers also has a serious security vulnerability discovered in 2024.

We at PIP, understand that these routes are not cheap and we continue to support any router you wish to connect to PIP with. However, many of you have routers that are now many years old, many of these are over a decade old. It is time to think about replacing them.

Just as importantly as security issues is the exponential advancements we have seen in network connectivity and WIFI technology. This combined with the increased load of WIFI enabled devices in your business or home often leads to your router being the bottle neck and severely limiting your Broadband speed.
